Syncing an iPod may cause iTunes to freeze. The iPod is recognised and you get a set up iPod screen. When you select “Done”, the iTunes program freezes.
You can download and install the most recent version of iTunes from Apple.
Click on the appropriate software version radio button. You can also uncheck the boxes next to the “Email me” and “Keep me up to date with” options, if you don’t want email from Apple. Try to sync your iPod and hopefully that will resolve your problem.
If that does not work then you can try another option which is to reformat your iPod. In order to do this make sure all your files and songs on your iPod are already backed up. If your ipod is empty then please reformat your iPod.
Connect your iPod to your PC or Mac and iTunes will run and try to sync your ipod. It will freeze again. This time kill the iTunes software process, either by continually hitting the “X” to close the program or pressing your “Ctrl”, “Alt”, and “Delete” keys at the same time.
A processes menu will open after pressing ctrl, alt, and delete. Highlight iTunes and select “End Process”. Once iTunes is closed then go to “My Computer”. In my computer you will see a separate drive and letter for your iPod.
Right click the drive and select format. This will erase everything on your iPod so please make sure you have all your files off your iPod backed up first if you have any. Once the iPod is re formatted please try to sync it again with iTunes.
The proceeding instructions were for a Windows computer. Substitute the appropriate commands and actions for your Mac.
