After physically connecting your HP scanner and installing the software, the computer recognises the scanner in ‘Device Manager’ but the HP software fails to connect to the scanner.Try installing the hardware first before installing the HP Scan software. You can try unplugging the device from the USB port, then uninstalling the software from add or remove programs in control panel.
After the software and device is unplugged go to control panel again and this time select device manager. Once in device manager highlight and right click to delete the scanner from device manager. Plug back in the scanner via USB, Windows should detect the scanner again. It should prompt you for the driver CD.
Insert the CD-ROM and then select the CD-ROM check box. Click on Next and the drivers will install. The HP scanning software installation should begin after the drivers installed.
Go ahead and install the HP scanning software. Hopefully, the scanner will work this time. Check out the hp document scanners instructions, plus some other troubleshooting steps.
